Climate Protection – are we running out of time?
18th International Conference for Renewable Mobility “Fuels of the Future 2021”
Berlin, December 2020. Speakers from the German Bioenergy Association, the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, the international mineral oil industry, the German automotive industry and the scientific community are presenting their concepts, strategies and research results for renewable mobility on the first digital conference “Fuels of The Future 2021 – digital & internationally networked!“ on 18st to 22nd January 2021.
Despite all efforts, the transport sector in Germany, Europe and worldwide has so far made practically no contribution to climate protection. Both higher power-to-weight ratios of the vehicle fleet and an increase in road-based freight transport have more than compensated for technological efficiency gains and greenhouse gas savings.
The defossilisation of the transport sector is a central challenge, not least in view of its overall economic significance. At the same time, climate protection is already running out of time in terms of the greenhouse gas budget that is still available globally to meet the 1.5-degree target. The European Commission’s “Green Deal” therefore provides for an increase in the climate protection target to 50 to 55 percent by 2030.
The resulting enormous pressure to act on climate protection requires a prioritization of what can be achieved in the commitment period and with what measures. The climate protection policy of the current German EU Council Presidency must also be geared to this objective.
Achieving the 2030 target under the Climate Protection Act requires a massive reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector: However, developments in the transport sector have so far been contrary to the target. Since other promising measures such as e-mobility, hydrogen and other electricity based fuels will not deliver noticeable effects in climate protection until after 2030, sustainable biofuels are the means of choice for greenhouse gas reduction in transport, especially in the vehicle population, in the next 10 years.
There are therefore a variety of challenges and tasks to be met in order to decisively advance renewable mobility and climate protection. As a national and international discussion platform, the International Congress “Fuels of the Future 2021” takes up these central questions about the future of mobility. Take an active part in this forward-looking discussion on the decarbonization of transport – this is a global challenge.
The International Conference “Fuels of the Future” is the European flagship event for renewable mobility and is hosted by the German Bioenergy Association (BBE) together with the Union for the Promotion of Oil and Protein Plants (UFOP), the Federal Association of the German Bioethanol Industry (BDBe), the German Biofuel Industry Association (VDB) and the German Biogas Association (FvB). It is sponsored by Landwirtschaftliche Rentenbank, Germany’s development agency for agribusiness and rural areas.
In digital format, you can switch flexibly from your desired location to the congress and save time and travel expenses. Information on the detailed programme and registration under: www.fuels-of-the-future.com.
